Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Digital Device
It has been 30 years after the first Toy Story movie debuted, launching the animation giant as a leading film company and bringing viewers to iconic figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang
The preview shows Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a brand new toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser avoids is why the sheriff is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a fair and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.
Surely, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before setting off for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. The clip displays the badge pinned to her shirt.
Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
