The buzz about The Game Awards reached a fever pitch, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling image of a desert monolith. The question has been revealed. Larian Studios is working on a brand-new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer featuring intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal opening of infernal gates.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio stated ahead of time that a direct sequel to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.
That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This choice of words hints that the team could be building a faster-paced experience rather than another tactical title. At this moment, this is speculation, as only a announcement clip is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it kicked off the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by rich lore, branching plots, and deep class systems—traits that later found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is familiar fare, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency granted to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is brimming with specialized paths only possible by choosing a specific type of character with a personal story.
The series is also notoriously permissive, letting players to improvise both in story and combat. Most missions can be completed in a variety of manners, sometimes in lateral fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you recalled something a dog told you.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by using the world itself in a clever way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games in history. Now, players can anticipate another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
