Area Police
Approximately 50 automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Cars, walls and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.
Police say they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.
The fluid had been applied in the form of a swastika, they reported.
Police then located multiple other marked vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials say initial examinations suggest the liquid was likely human blood.
"Currently there is no clue as to its source; authorities are not yet informed of any harm in connection with the event," they stated.
Municipal representatives stated they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have asked to the community for information.
A senior political figure stated the attack rendered him stunned and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on online, referring to the death of nine people by a shooter aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in February 2020.
